It is a word processing programme designed for creation of office documents, for instance CV, letters, fax cover sheets, official reports, legal documents, brochures, technical manuals and so on. It is an efficient application for students, businesses and even individuals to have on their PC. The Word was released by Microsoft. Its original name was Multi-Tool Word. The first version was released in the eighties.

Many new features typical of other programs in the Microsoft Office 2010 will be included. Microsoft Word 2010 will include new WordArt styles and effects replacing the old ones. Although Word is a component of the Microsoft Office system, it is also sold as a standalone application and included in Microsoft Works Suite.
Beginning with the 2003 version, the branding was changed to accentuate Word’s identity as a component within the Office Suite. Microsoft Ltd. The newer “.docx” extension denotes the Office Open XML international standard for Office documents and is deployed by Word 2007 for Windows, Word 2008 for the Macintosh.Microsoft Word allows to type, format and edit text to be printed or viewed electronically.
Microsoft Word is a low-cost word processing program. The application offers unlimited features and tools, and many users are familiar and comfortable with its Microsoft toolbars.Word has options to format fonts, add clipart, add page numbers, as well as create headers and tables. There is even an “office assistant” cartoon that can direct a user through the creation of a document or answer any queries that arise.
